DIRTY CHRISTIANITY PART III
______________________________

I love looking at all of the nativity scenes that are set up during the holiday season. They are beautiful. There is something magical and mystical that always draws me to them.

However, the truth is no one really knows what it looked like. But this much I know, giving birth is a gut wrenching and dirty experience. Even in the most sterile of environments it's dirty.

Our Great High Priest entered this world covered in blood.

I am currently re-reading the Torah. There is so much that I don't understand. When a priest is consecrated why do they cover his right ear lobe, thumb and big toe in blood?

What I did take away from my reading is that being a priest is a dirty business. Every day there is sacrifice. At the end of the day you went home a bloody mess. You were tired cause you couldn't sit down. There were fires that could never go out. That meant day and night someone was chopping and gathering wood to feed the insatiable fires.

We are all called to be priest of God. I don't see the image of priest as someone who sits in an Ivory Tower. It's someone who is willing to get dirty.

Great hearing from you in the blogging world.  I do remember you from Origins!  Hope you are making it back this year.  We are adding a new day about creating the future.  I like your thoughts on Dirty Christianity.  Keep up the great work!

I like your series!

Did you happen to catch mine on Messy is the Godliest Way to Live?

I think, with you, me, and others writing about this subject, God must be trying to communicate something profound and necessary.

Let the good times roll, bro.

Hey, I just finished an intense study of the Penteteuch. It's an inductive study by Kay Arthur (Precepts), if you're looking to dig really deep. I* learned SOOO much...

Eric, thanks for stopping by. I'm doing the IMN thing so I'm looking forward to going back in May. Creating the future sounds great. I hope to see you while I'm there.

Cliff thanks for you comments. No I haven't checked out "Messy is the Godliest Way to Live?" But I defiantly will, I absolutely loved your theology of cats and dogs, that was great.

Hey Lori, Krys loves Kay Arthur. We even have a leather bound Inductive Study Bible. I haven't done that with Leviticus though. So can you enlighten me on the bloody ear lobe thing? The only thing that makes sense to me is that it is like being a bond servant to the master. Like the slaves who did not want to be set free.

Great thoughts, Eric. It's good to be reminded that being a priest is a messy business!

I remember hearing a fantastic teaching series on the Tabernacle by TD Jakes, one of which was on the High Priest and talked about the ear, thumb, and toe. I think (its been I while since I listened to it) he suggested that the blood on the ear represented hearing God, the thumb doing what God wants us to do, and the toe going where God wants us to go. So it kind of represented a setting apart of the whole life to do God's will.

I don't know if that's right (or if I remembered what he said exactly!) but I can see how that could make sense.
